Wyatt Decker, M.D. shares journey from GED to CEO during Summer 2012 Commencement Ceremony

Thunderbird School of Global Management will welcome Mayo Clinic’s Wyatt Decker, M.D. as keynote speaker for the Summer 2012 Commencement Ceremony on August 17 at 10 a.m. During the ceremony, Thunderbird will graduate 96 students from 19 countries and seven different programs.

Decker is a physician at Mayo Clinic, professor of emergency medicine at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine, CEO of Mayo Clinic Arizona, and vice president of Mayo Clinic.

Decker has been with Mayo Clinic for more than 17 years as a consultant and professor of emergency medicine. He has served in numerous leadership roles, including chair of Emergency Medicine, with chair responsibilities for both the emergency departments at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. and Jacksonville, Fla.

After leaving high school at age of 16 with a GED, Decker followed an uncommon path to finding his purpose and his way to Mayo Clinic.
“When I ran into challenges – integrity, fairness and teamwork have always worked for me,” said Decker. “Thoughtfulness doesn’t hurt either, especially as you navigate various countries, cultures, protocols, and viewpoints.”
