Thunderbird hosts certified trade mission to Chile, Peru & Colombia
August trip will connect U.S. private equity and venture capital firms with foreign investors
Thunderbird School of Global Management’s Private Equity Center will lead a select group of U.S.-based Private Equity firms on a tour of South America August 12-17. The mission, held in cooperation with the U.S. Department of Commerce, the U.S. Department of State, the U.S. Foreign Commercial Service and the American Chamber of Commerce in Chile, will allow firms to connect with South American institutional investors, sovereign funds and family offices. Key sites to be visited include Santiago, Chile; Lima, Peru and Bogota, Colombia.
This is the first trade mission planned between the U.S. Department of Commerce and the Thunderbird Private Equity Center, and future missions in the works include visits to Saudi Arabia, China and Hong Kong. The events will allow foreign institutional investors and American private equity and venture capital fund managers to build key global business relationships. At each stop, participants will take part in economic briefings, panel and roundtable discussions and networking receptions with business leaders and diplomats.
“There is a whole new market for private equity financing that is waiting to be tapped in South America,” said Jessica Tartell, Certified Trade Mission Director for the Thunderbird Private Equity Center. “While the current economic climate has made finding domestic financing difficult, this trip opens up strong global opportunities. Chile, Peru and Colombia are among the largest, most stable and exciting economies in South America, and should not be ignored.”
- The 2012 South America Private Equity and Venture Capital Certified Trade Mission is focused on the following objectives:
- Introduce U.S. private equity firms to LPs who have the ability to invest in U.S. private equity firms.
- Create opportunities for intimate interactions between U.S. GPs and foreign LPs.
- Promote U.S. private equity firms.
- Introduce South American venture and private equity firms, entrepreneurs, and business and government leaders to U.S. private equity fund managers.
Thunderbird’s Private Equity Center has selected GP participants based on criteria meant to showcase the U.S. private equity and venture capital industry. Invited South American LPs include top-tier institutional investors, high net-worth individuals; single and multi-family offices, sovereign funds, and pension funds that either have an exposure to U.S. private equity and venture capital fund investments or have potential interest in doing so in the future.
