Thunderbird awards first-ever full-ride AIESEC scholarship

July 1, 2014

Thunderbird School of Global Management, ranked No. 1 in international business, is excited to announce that it has awarded its inaugural, full-tuition AIESEC scholarship to Alina Buzgar of Romania. Thunderbird has long been an active supporter of AIESEC, a global not-for-profit organization that provides leadership opportunities and international internships to undergraduate students. Alina will begin her MBA in Global Management at Thunderbird this fall.

“AIESEC made a tremendous impact on my life as an undergrad, but I didn’t dare to think I could find a similar opportunity at a graduate school,” admits Alina, who served as the Vice President of Human Resources for Romania’s West University of Timisoara AIESEC chapter before graduating in 2005. “Thunderbird won me over as soon as I learned how much the mission, vision and strategies of the school are like AIESEC – and when I met the Thunderbird staff, students and alumni I knew it was right for me.”

Much like AIESEC’s commitment to “empower young people for peace and fulfillment of humankind’s potential,” Thunderbird mission is to “educated global leaders who create sustainable prosperity worldwide.”

Alina says Thunderbird’s mission, top ranking in international business, acclaimed curriculum and world-class faculty originally attracted her, but Thunderbird’s “global outlook and reach, the mission statement and the rich ‘fabric’ that characterizes the school” is what really motivated her to pursue the scholarship opportunity. This newly minted scholarship was only awarded to one AIESEC recipient; other admitted AIESECers received the school’s existing $5,000 AIESEC affiliation scholarship.

“We received some outstanding applications for our AIESEC full-tuition scholarship and the choice was not easy – but Alina’s résumé, her scholastic background and her aspirations for the future proved to us that she was the best fit and the most deserving,” says Jay Bryant, Thunderbird associate vice president of Admissions “We are thrilled to welcome Alina into the Thunderbird community. She will make a tremendous addition to our fall 2014 MBA cohort.”
